Job Description

This is a full time permanent position.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced social worker to join the VEMT team in Hull. The VEMT team comprises of a Team Manager, Advanced Social Worker, 3 Social Workers, an NRM Specialist Assessment Officer, Missing Child Co-ordinator, Youth Engagement worker and Team Co-ordinator. The Youth Service also fund 2 youth workers to work alongside the VEMT team to offer MEET UP (Return Home Interview) discussions to children who have been reported as missing.

As a social worker in the team you will offer support to children and young people who have missing episodes and children deemed to be at risk of or victims of child exploitation, the VEMT team also oversees the Locality Exploitation Risk Meetings (LERM) and MAYVE (Multi-Agency Youth Violence and Exploitation)) process, ensuring that partners recognise and embrace the contextual safeguarding approach.

You will offer direct support working with YP on areas of risk including child criminal exploitation, child sexual exploitation, grooming, online safety, and missing episodes. Partnership working is crucial in the promotion of Contextual safeguarding and the VEMT team work extremely closely with Humberside police – Locate Team, CSE team, Neighbourhood Policing Team and PVP unit. There are also strong established relationships with social care, early help, education, health, youth services, Hull youth justice service, voluntary sector, and local charitable trusts; all of which are represented at the LERM and MAYVE meetings.

In addition to the support work, you will also do prevention work via training offers to all disciplines. The training has been delivered both virtually and face to face on child exploitation, contextual safeguarding, modern day slavery and the NRM process, missing children, and the power of words (victim blaming). This training offer has been well received by schools (designated safeguarding leads), social care and early help teams (Stop the Clock), children’s homes and health providers. The VEMT team also offer 1-1 consults (via Teams) to any professional who is seeking advice/guidance about a child or young person they are worried about in respect of missing episodes or child exploitation.

Hull Children's Services has recently achieved its strongest ever Ofsted judgement, being rated Good overall, with Outstanding judgements for the impact of leaders on social work practice and for the experiences and progress of care leavers. Inspectors recognised the significant progress made across the service, describing it as "safer, stronger and more consistent" for children and families.
