About the Role

Working out of a newly and totally refurbished Victorian building in a highly desirable part of town close to transport links, Barnsley College and the Care Leaver Hub there will be four fully furnished individual flats plus staff office, staff sleep-in room and large direct work area to support young people in their next step to independence.

Young people with lived experience in care shaped this initiative, and we are looking for the right candidates to deliver our vision.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Manager to support the leadership and daytoday operational management of our brand-new 16+ Supported Accommodation service.

Working closely with the Registered Manager, you will play a key role in creating a safe, supportive and developmentfocused environment where young people aged 16-18 are supported to build independence, resilience, and the skills they need for adulthood.

This is a rewarding opportunity for a skilled practitioner with leadership experience who is passionate about care leavers, safeguarding, and relationshipbased practice, and who wants to make a genuine difference to young people’s lives.

 

Key Responsibilities

As Assistant Manager, you will:

  • Support the Registered Manager in the leadership, coordination and management of the service, ensuring highquality support is delivered at all times

  • Provide daytoday management oversight of support practice, ensuring young people’s emotional, social and practical needs are met as they move towards independence

  • Promote safeguarding and welfare, ensuring robust risk management, clear boundaries and safe, nurturing routines

  • Lead and support a team of up to 6 Support Workers through supervision, team meetings and professional development

  • Work in partnership with young people, families, social workers, personal advisers and other professionals to achieve positive outcomes

  • Ensure the service operates in line with the Supported Accommodation (England) Regulations 2023, national guidance, Ofstedaligned quality standards and council procedures

  • Contribute to quality assurance, service development and continuous improvement

  • Ensure accuratetimely recordkeeping including support plans, risk assessments and pathway planning documentation

  • Participate in recruitment, induction and training of staff

  • Represent the service at reviews, professional meetings and multiagency forums

 

About You

We’re looking for someone who brings both experience and values to the role. You will have:

  • A QCF Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (or equivalent)

  • Substantial experience supporting young people in residential, supported accommodation or similar settings

  • Experience supervising or leading staff

  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation and statutory guidance

  • Experience working with young people with complex needs (including trauma, attachment and risktaking behaviours)

  • Excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills

  • A commitment to youngpersoncentredrelationshipbased practice
