Job Description

York is a fantastic place to live and work—a city rich in culture, history, and character, with plenty to get involved in both professionally and socially.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Adult Social Care & Community Team (ASCCT) and make a meaningful impact in the lives of adults across the city.

We are looking for a dedicated Social Worker to join our diverse and forward thinking team.

The role focuses on delivering high-quality, person-centred care through a strength-based approach, carrying out Care Act Assessments to help individuals achieve their desired outcomes. You will work in close partnership with customers, carers, and multi-disciplinary professionals to develop and implement effective support plans.

The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of the following legislation:

  • The Care Act 2014
  • The Mental Capacity Act 2005
  • Human Right Act 1998
  • Equality Act 2010

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting Care Act Assessments to identify needs and outcomes.
  • Developing person-centred support plans in collaboration with individuals and their support networks.
  • Managing your own caseload effectively
  • Participating in a duty rota, responding to urgent care enquiries as they arise.

About the team:

ASCCT is a large, busy, and dynamic team covering a range of specialist areas that offer diverse development opportunities for social workers at all stages of their careers.

Our service includes:

  • Front Door
  • Duty Function
  • Long-Term Social Work
  • Review Managers
  • Health Specialist Social Workers
  • Carer Specialist Workers

You will be part of a supportive and collaborative team of social workers who are committed to delivering high-quality care and working together to make a difference.

Our office features modern facilities, including an onsite subsidised café run by the national charity United Response, and boasts stunning views of York’s world-famous Roman City walls.

As a member of ASCCT, you’ll play a key role in shaping our social work model, while also mentoring and supporting student social workers and ASYEs.

We are passionate about team development and career progression, and we actively invest in our staff.

If you're looking for a rewarding role in a vibrant city with a strong professional community, we would love to hear from you.

Additional Information:

  • ASYE (Assessed and Supported Year in Employment) candidates will be considered for this post.
  • Full-Time and Part-time posts are available, to be discussed at interview stage.

To apply you will need a degree in Social Work and be registered with Social Work England (SWE). Currently we are not licenced to sponsor employees for visas, therefore are unable to offer sponsorship for these roles.

As these roles are public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C1: Can express him/herself fluently and spontaneously, almost effortlessly. Only a conceptually difficult subject can hinder a natural, smooth flow of language.

City of York Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all employees and volunteers to share this commitment. We require the successful candidate to undertake an enhanced Criminal Record check via the Disclosure and Barring Service.

The City of York Council is committed to supporting and rewarding you for your hard work so that you can enjoy life both in and outside of work. In addition to pay, pension and flexible working benefits, we have also secured a wide and ever-growing range of discounts and staff benefits. This includes gym memberships, travel permits, cycle to work schemes, adult education and many more local offers and discounts.

This role is suitable as a job share opportunity.

Hybrid working arrangements can be considered for this role. Each role at CYC is different and your working arrangements will be determined based on the requirements of the role and in collaboration with you and your needs as part of the recruitment process. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team.
